Complexity of undecidable formulæ in the rationals and inertial Zsigmondy theorems for elliptic curves

چکیده
Julia Robinson has given a first-order definition of the rational integers Z in the rational numbers Q by a formula (∀∃∀∃)(F = 0) where the ∀-quantifiers run over a total of 8 variables, and where F is a polynomial. This implies that the Σ5-theory of Q is undecidable. We prove that a conjecture about elliptic curves provides an interpretation of Z in Q with quantifier complexity ∀∃, involving only one universally quantified variable. This improves the complexity of defining Z in Q in two ways, and implies that the Σ3-theory, and even the Π2-theory, of Q is undecidable (recall that Hilbert’s Tenth Problem for Q is the question whether the Σ1-theory ofQ is undecidable). The conjecture is related to properties of elliptic divisibility sequences on an elliptic curve and its image under rational 2-descent, namely existence of primitive divisors in suitable residue classes, and we discuss how to prove weakerin-density versions of the conjecture and present some heuristics.

Efficient elliptic curve cryptosystems
Elliptic curve cryptosystems (ECC) are new generations of public key cryptosystems that have a smaller key size for the same level of security. The exponentiation on elliptic curve is the most important operation in ECC, so when the ECC is put into practice, the major problem is how to enhance the speed of the exponentiation. It is thus of great interest to develop algorithms for exponentiation...
متن کاملOn Remarks of Lifting Problems for Elliptic Curves
The Elliptic Curve Discrete Logarithm Problem(ECDLP) is known to be an exponential time problem except the cases of smooth curves, supersingular curves and anomalous curves. Recently, several new methods to solve ECDLP on a prime eld were proposed. All of them try to solve ECDLP on a prime eld by lifting a given elliptic curve to low rank elliptic curves de ned over the rationals. In this exten...
متن کاملPrimitive divisors of elliptic divisibility sequences
Silverman proved the analogue of Zsigmondy’s Theorem for elliptic divisibility sequences. For elliptic curves in global minimal form, it seems likely this result is true in a uniform manner. We present such a result for certain infinite families of curves and points. Our methods allow the first explicit examples of the elliptic Zsigmondy Theorem to be exhibited. As an application, we show that ...
متن کاملComplete characterization of the Mordell-Weil group of some families of elliptic curves
The Mordell-Weil theorem states that the group of rational points on an elliptic curve over the rational numbers is a finitely generated abelian group. In our previous paper, H. Daghigh, and S. Didari, On the elliptic curves of the form $ y^2=x^3-3px$, Bull. Iranian Math. Soc. 40 (2014), no. 5, 1119--1133., using Selmer groups, we have shown that for a prime $p...
متن کاملExistence of at least three weak solutions for a quasilinear elliptic system
In this paper, applying two theorems of Ricceri and Bonanno, we will establish the existence of three weak solutions for a quasilinear elliptic system. Indeed, we will assign a differentiable nonlinear operator to a differential equation system such that the critical points of this operator are weak solutions of the system. In this paper, applying two theorems of R...
